The Tank Museum Expecting Tiger Day Spring 2024 to Be Sell-Out Event
The Tank Museum is anticipating its upcoming Tiger Day Spring 2024 to be a sell-out, signaling how popular the event has gotten over the past few years. Along with getting to see the world’s only running Tiger I tank in action, those who attend will also watch other World War II-era vehicles in action.
Attracting upwards of 4,500 attendees from across the world each year, the Tank Museum‘s Tiger Day occurs twice a year, with the 2024 events slated to take place on April 27 (Spring) and September 28 (Autumn).
The star of the show is Tiger 131, a WWII-era German Tiger I heavy tank that was taken in 1943 by the 2nd Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) and the 142nd (Suffolk) Regiment Royal Armoured Corps in Tunisia. It was such a momentous occasion that both Winston Churchill and King George VI traveled to northwest Africa to see it.
Following the conflict, in 1951, Tiger 131 was delivered to the Tank Museum, where it has undergone continued restoration and maintenance work.
Writing in a press release, Nik Wyness, the head of market at the Tank Museum, said:
“The Tiger tank is arguably our most famous exhibit owing to the infamous reputation it secured during and since the [S]econd [W]orld [W]ar. Today, we proudly display Tiger 131 as a reminder of the courage displayed by the British troops that fought the tank on a remote Tunisian hillside, capturing it intact and allowing it to be inspected and evaluated here in the UK.”
Along with a 45-minute live demonstration of Tiger 131, a Panzerkampfwagen III and a Sd.Kfz. 2 (Kettenkrad) going up against such Allied tanks as the Churchill, Comet and M4 Sherman Fury in the Tank Museum’s arena, those attending Tiger Day Spring 2024 will also be privy to living history encampments and talks from experts in the field.
There’s also the chance to enter a raffle to actually ride in Tiger 131 as part of its crew.
