The Tank Museum is known for its impressive tank guides, with its latest, The Tank Museum Guide to the Sherman M4 Medium Tank, slated for release this year. To celebrate the news, the museum has announced a special perk for everyone who pre-orders the book by March 7, 2025.
Written by Pat Ware, The Tank Museum Guide to the M4 Sherman covers the development and service of one of the most famous tanks in military history. Designed and manufactured in the United States, the M4 Sherman saw action throughout World War II, with the likes of the US, Canadian, British, French and Soviet armies operating the tank. Several variants were developed over the decades, with it continuing to see use well after the conflict came to an end.
Originally published as an owners workshop manual, the latest iteration of the guide features additional chapters that cover the M4 Sherman’s appearances in Hollywood movies, such as Fury (2014), and its use in conflicts. There’s also a chapter solely dedicated to the Firefly, a British iteration of the tank that carried the powerful Ordnance QF 17-pounder as its main armament.
As the Tank Museum reports, Ware’s book also tells the M4 Sherman’s story from the viewpoints of those who manned the tank and maintained it. Notably, it also features input from those who’ve dedicated their lives to restoring those that are still around.
Speaking in a press release, historian Stuart Wheeler said, “We are delighted to launch this guide to the Sherman M4 Medium tank, a substantially upgraded edition of the M4 Sherman Haynes Manual.”
As aforementioned, The Tank Museum Guide to the M4 Sherman is currently available for pre-order, with those who order ahead of time able to purchase the book for the discounted price of £20 – a £10 savings!
On top of this, those who pre-order before March 7 will have their names printed in the acknowledgements section of the guide, forever immortalizing them alongside the history of this famed tank.
